Grange Development: 4 v Falkirk GHG 2s: 1
(scorers: Dean, White, Hay, Middleton S.)
The Development put in probably their most convincing performance of the season to date against a typically robust Falkirk 2's side. Sadly one of the telescopic pylons again failed to rise to the occasion and it was fortunate that the visiting captain and the umpires had no objection to proceeding with the match.
With an unusually large squad the Development team started "brightly" and pinned the visitors back in their own half. The early pressure soon told and a persistent Cammie Dean opened the scoring for Grange. Whilst Grange had the majority of possession, Falkirk did produce an occasional break and their direct style was only thwarted with a good important block by Iain Morrison in the Grange goal to maintain the lead. This was to prove decisive as Grange then capitalised and good play involving Colin Stein and Dean again set up Mike White who scored with a quick turn and shot. With Grange now in total control White then combined well with Donny Hay who slipped the ball home from a tight angle to give Grange a commanding 3-0 lead.
The second half proved a more even contest as Falkirk battled back and never gave up. The visitors were rewarded with a goal midway through the half and Grange had to work hard to keep the feisty Falkirk team at bay. Shaun Middleton finished the match off in style with a smashing short corner strike that found the bottom corner. Another good performance and excellent result from an increasingly younger Development team squad.
Many thanks to Jonny for umpiring (in not the easiest of matches to officiate in - particularly in the dark in the second half).
