Grange 2's defeated Watsonians 2's 3-1 (Goals to Stumpy, The Hoff, The Mezz)
A successful start to yet another new season. The "new" Watsonians pitch is like playing on carpet with 3cm of sand covering it. This made for a very slow game, extremely difficult for us to display the slick ball movement and silky skills for which we have become internationally renowned. We started off very well, controlling the play and creating many chances - unfortunately we didn't capitalise on this until about 20 minutes into the game when a well worked short corner variation saw Stumpy mis-hit the ball over the keeper for his first goal of the season. Unfortunately we soon conceded the equaliser after Watsonians made a break and a lack of midfield cover defence saw their spare player knock in the goal.
The second half saw many more chances to the good guys (us) and The Hoff knocked in his goal to give us the lead after some excellent work down the backline by The Professor. The Mezz knocked one in later in the game to establish a 100% record for the mighty Grange 2's.
Lots for us to work on still, we need to focus on our fitness and with that will come improved basics, concentration and composure. A solid start to the new season however. Thanks to Alastair for umpiring.
